I have to say that according to these charts the US is not the top burner of coal. The US does rank highest for petroleum consumption. The jarring part of this statistic is when you compare that the US consumes 20 percent of total petroleum with only 312 million people, while China uses 11.2 percent of the world's petroleum among its population of 1.3 billion. by population it is startling!
